Report: Damon Stoudamire to return to UA as assistant coach

May 6, 2013, 2:29 AM | Updated: 3:14 pm

Damon Stoudamire had a prolific four-year career at the University of Arizona before turning pro in 1995.

Now removed from his 13-year NBA career, Stoudamire has reportedly decided to go back to his alma mater to impart his wisdom as a coach.

According to CBSSports.com’s Jeff Goodman, former UA assistant Josh Pastner has confirmed that Stoudamire is leaving his staff to join Sean Miller’s in Tucson.

Stoudamire, who worked the past two seasons under Pastner at Memphis, was an NCAA All-American (1995), Pac-10 Player of the Year (1995), and Wooden Award finalist (1995) under Lute Olsen.

When he graduated in 1995, the former Wildcats point guard held the school record for three-pointers made in a career and was second all-time in points.

Stoudamire went on to average 13.4 points and 6.1 assists per game during his professional career and was named the 1996 NBA Rookie of the Year.
