Social media was a flutter Thursday, as Arizona State officially named Bobby Hurley its new head men’s basketball coach, replacing Herb Sendek who was fired after posting an 155-133 record in nine seasons with the Sun Devils.

Hurley, best known from his days as an All-American point guard and two-time national champion at Duke in the early ’90’s, arrives in Tempe by way of the University of Buffalo with the hope of igniting the middling Pac-12 program.

Below are but a few reactions from notable figures on social and in print media.

“By the time he was 21, all of his basketball influences were Hall of Famers — his dad, his high school coach, his college coach — so in some ways I was envious of that.” – Grant Hill

“I’m 40 years old. If I had a 17-year-old kid, a 16-year-old kid thinking about college basketball, and I found out that Bobby Hurley wanted to come to my house, I’m letting him in the door. I don’t know if my kid knows who he is necessarily, but once the dad lets him in the door, then that’s when he goes to work and he’s very impressive in person.” – Brad Riter
