Arizona’s 17-7 loss to UCLA at the Rose Bowl over the weekend didn’t go over well with the College Football Playoff committee, who dropped them seven spots, to No. 19, in their latest rankings, which were released Tuesday.

The 6-2 Wildcats are aided immensely by an upset win over Oregon (4th) in Eugene earlier this season. In addition to the loss to UCLA, Arizona lost to USC in Tucson after missing a game-ending field goal.

Mississippi State tops the poll, followed by Florida State, Auburn and Oregon.

For the first time ever, there will be a four-team playoff to determine college football’s national champion. The rankings are determined by a 12-member committee comprised of athletic directors (Jeff Long, Barry Alvarez, Pat Haden, Oliver Luck and Dan Radakovich), former coaches (Tyrone Willingham and Tom Osborne), a former conference commissioner (Mike Tranghese), a former reporter (Steve Weiberg) and other heads of state and administrators (Michael C. Gould, Tom Jernstedt and Condoleezza Rice).
