Could the Arizona Cardinals' next quarterback have played college ball in their own backyard?

According to Tony Pauline, who is a draft analyst and publisher of Draftinsider.net, the team was in Tucson Thursday for the University of Arizona's pro day and saw an excellent performance from QB Matt Scott.

According to CBSSports.com, Scott attempted 85 passes in front of 25 scouts Thursday, and lost the services of number one receiver Dan Buckner, who tweaked his hamstring and did not catch.

Scott started just one full season for the Wildcats -- his senior season -- throwing for 3,620 yards and 27 touchdowns.

The passer has adequate size for the position and above-average speed, and has been on NFL radars since his strong combine last month.

Whether or not he's a fit for Bruce Arians' offense, though, remains to be seen, as the coach has previously said he's not interested in a dual-threat quarterback.

    Scott could be a nice pickup for the Cards after they've drafted an O-lineman. Less upside that Smith or Barkley, but less risk, too.

    I’d like to see the cards invest a third on Bray but I’m not too familiar with Scott. Also, if Scott can make all of the throws then the dual threat ability is a just an added bonus. That one year as a starter is scary though.

    Hold on with the backup only talk. The wrd is from several scouts I know that Matt Scott could be as good, or better than Russell Wilson. Yes, Scott played only one season but his ability to read coverage and his Dan Marino quick release and powerful arm actually puts him ahead of Geno Smith by scouts I know personally. Yes, he can run, but he is a pocket passer who can also run.

    Would you take him over Tyler Bray? Wilsons experience and maturity make it hard for me to digest those comparisons.

    Did someone just put anything to do with Dan Marino in a comparison to Matt Scott? He might have had a nice pro day, but let's not lose our heads. That's laughable.

    Scott is much more raw than Russell Wilson. But, he's also taller, is a better athlete and has a stronger arm. The team that drafts him will need to be patient while he develops. However, in 2-3 years he could be the best QB to come out of this draft. If guys like Wilson and Kaepernick can be quality starters in the league, Scott can too. Philly would be a perfect fit, imo.
