Emergency call in Davon Durant domestic violence arrest released

Arizona State junior college transfer linebacker Davon Durant was arrested March 6 on allegations of domestic violence and aggravated assault on his girlfriend.

According to Maricopa County Superior Court records, Durant, 21, was arrested after a witness called police claiming Durant struck his girlfriend when they were sitting in a black SUV in the 500 block of East Apache Boulevard.

Tempe police reportedly identified bruising on his girlfriend’s neck “consistent with finger marks,” but she alleged they were hickeys while recanting her statement to police days later.

The 911 call by the witness of the incident was recently released, in which the witness tells the dispatcher, “There’s some guy, like, beating this girl inside of this car.”

The dispatcher asked the witness to describe the car, and then if the witness saw the suspect hitting her.

“Yeah, they’re in the car, she’s like, screaming,” the witness said, after describing the black SUV.

The caller is reportedly one of two witnesses of the incident.

Durant’s first court date, a preliminary hearing, was originally scheduled for March 18, but was vacated and the rescheduled arraignment will take place on March 25.

Arizona State head coach Todd Graham said Durant has been suspended from the team indefinitely. Durant is not on the spring roster.

“The process has to carry itself out,” Graham said. “Our standards are the highest. They are a lot higher than, I think, just about anybody around. There is accountability for those standards. If you’re going to step forward and make the stance that we do when it comes to character and respect and all those things, well obviously that’s something that is very, very important to us. But also, we owe it to our guys to let the process play itself out.”

Graham said if found guilty, Durant would be “punished to the fullest.”
