ASU quarterback position undecided

Quarterback wasn’t supposed to be a position of concern for the 2012
Arizona State Sun Devils.
It was set up to be Brock Osweiler’s team, but after ASU decided to let go of
Dennis Erickson, which led to Noel Mazzone heading to UCLA, Osweiler
entered the NFL Draft.
During the Sun Devils first scrimmage Saturday morning, sophomore Mike
Bercovici, redshirt freshman Michael Eubank and redshirt sophomore Taylor
Kelly rotated series in that order.
After the scrimmage new head coach Todd Graham didn’t address any of
the quarterbacks individually, but did discuss them as a group.
“I thought there were positives from each one of them and there were
negatives,” said Graham. “The main thing is the inexperience and the
inexperience running our offense.”
During the scrimmage, Eubank got the most snaps. The 6’5″, 242-pound
quarterback is a physically imposing figure. His ability to run the read
option and strong arm are noticeable strengths, while his accuracy is
inconsistent and decision making questionable.
Eubank threw three touchdowns and one interception Saturday, but those
numbers don’t tell the true story. One of the touchdowns went through
cornerback Robert Nelson’s hands and Eubank had another three passes
that should have been picked.
It’s interesting to note, Eubank was the only quarterback who played
consecutive possessions during the scrimmage, lending credence to the
belief that he’s the leading candidate to take over the reins as ASU’s
signal caller.
