Mike Smith named NHL’s First Star of the Month

One of the reasons the Phoenix Coyotes are the hottest
team
in the NHL is because they’re riding the hottest goalie in
the league.

And for that reason, netminder Mike Smith was named as the
First Star of the Month for February.

Smith posted an 11-0 mark during the month, with a 1.42
goals-against average and a sparkling .952 save
percentage.
The Coyotes went 11-0-1 during February and now sit atop
the
Pacific Division with 75 points.

Smith beat out Ottawa defenseman Erik Karlsson and Tampa
Bay
‘s Steven Stamkos, who were named the Second and Third
Stars
of the Month.

For the season, Smith ranks 10th in the league in GAA
(2.24), 7th in save percentage (.927) and is tied for 5th
in the league with 29 wins.

Smith and the Coyotes host the Calgary Flames Thursday
night
at Jobing.com Arena.
