The Pulse: Fans say top pick Dansby Swanson will start for Arizona Diamondbacks in 3 years

Given that Dansby Swanson became the first overall pick in the 2015, it’s right for Arizona Diamondback fans to believe he isn’t far from becoming their starting shortstop.
It gets complicated, however, when considering how promising current starting shortstop Nick Ahmed has been this year. After batting .140 in April, he’s improved enough to be hitting .234 for the year.
On top of his stellar defense and given how much manager Chip Hale believes in him, it appears he has a bright future ahead.
Yet, fans believe in Swanson, who scouts rate well defensively at shortstop and as a batter.
Fifty-three percent of 843 polled said he would be the starting shortstop for the D-backs three years from now.
But the 21-year-old, who signed with Arizona last week, is not far ahead of Ahmed. The 25-year-old major leaguer garnered 38 percent of the vote.
Current D-backs second baseman Chris Owings earned just 3 percent of the vote, while 6 percent of those polled believe another player will be Arizona’s man at shortstop.
