Gerardo Parra’s Arizona Diamondbacks career: By the Numbers

Jul 31, 2014, 11:45 PM | Updated: Aug 1, 2014, 4:03 pm

The Arizona Diamondbacks traded outfielder Gerardo Parra to the Milwaukee Brewers Thursday, ending the left-hander’s six-year run with the team.

Parra was around for some of the worst seasons the team has had as well as one of the best. And though it seemed like the team was always looking to replace him in the lineup, he always seemed to be on the field making plays.

Here’s a look at Parra’s time with the D-backs, by the numbers:

2

Parra won two Gold Glove Awards as a Diamondback. He received the first for his work in left field in 2011, and the second for the job he did in right field in 2013.

4.0

Parra’s defensive WAR (wins above replacement) in 2013, which is the best single-season mark in franchise history.

5

Parra’s 787 games played for the D-backs places him fifth on the team’s all-time list behind only Luis Gonzalez (1,194), Chris Young (885), Miguel Montero (865) and Steve Finley (849).

26

The outfielder was charged with just 26 errors in 728 games.

32

Parra was caught stealing 32 times, with 24 of them coming in the last three seasons. Conversely, he stole just 51 bases.

39

Though he spent most of his time with the team as a corner outfielder, Parra hit just 39 home runs.

62

Parra was credited with 62 assists as a Diamondback, as people were slow to realize that challenging his arm may not be a good idea. His totals of 12 in 2011, 2013 in 2013 and eight in 2014 ranked first in baseball among outfielders.

.983

Parra’s fielding percentage in Arizona was .983.

$4.85 million

Parra’s salary this season was fairly reasonable, but he will be eligible for arbitration this winter and could be in line for a substantial raise.
