The Phoenix Suns announced Wednesday that President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby will be moving to a senior advisor role.
Babby, who has held the title of President of Basketball Operations since 2010, will be moved to the new role effective August 1, according the release.
Babby issued a statement, saying the new role would allow him to remain more flexible with his time.
“I am grateful that Robert has accommodated my wish to reduce my work load, while remaining a vital part of the Suns organization,” Babby said. “At this stage of my career, I welcome the flexibility that comes with this new role, a flexibility that will enable me to do other things that are important to me both personally and in the community. I feel particularly confident in making this transition because of the quality of leadership in place within the organization.”
Suns owner Robert Sarver thanked Babby for his five years in the role.
“Lon has served the Suns well for the last five years,” Sarver said. “I am pleased that he will remain with the Suns and continue to bring his expertise and value to the organization.”
Suns general manager Ryan McDonough will assume the President of Basketball operations duties in addition to his current role.
McDonough was the runner-up for the NBA Executive of the Year Award in 2013-14, his first season with the Suns.
