Arizona Cardinals coach Arians: chop block on Campbell ‘dirtiest play I’ve seen’

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians called out Denver Broncos tight end Julius Thomas for what Arians saw as a cheap shot on Cards’ defensive end Calais Campbell that resulted in a sprained MCL.

A chop block applied by Thomas to Campbell in the third quarter resulted in a penalty and knocked Campbell out of the game.

“That was the dirtiest play I’ve seen in 37 years of football,” Arians said in his post-game press conference following the Cardinals’ 41-20 loss to the Broncos in Denver.

“It was a nasty chop block. That’s all I can say about it.”

Arians said there was no doubt that Thomas’ hit on Campbell was “premeditated,” and Campbell will undergo an MRI to learn how long he’ll be sidelined.

“He’s got a sprained MCL. We don’t know if it’s torn,” Arians said.
