Hold on, Marc Bulger still wants to start

The Cardinals QB search seemed to eliminate Marc Bulger, as the former Rams starter and Ravens backup seemed to have little interest in being a starting quarterback.

However, a report by Len Pasquarelli seems to disagree with that assessment.

But people close to the 34-year-old Bulger, whose father was an old high school classmate of yours truly, took some umbrage at Warner’s remarks.

“He still has the fire to play,” said one member of the Bulger camp. “Last year, when he didn’t get off the bench [in Baltimore], it wasn’t like he got completely cozy with being the No. 2 guy. The situation, though, will have to be the right one.”

Will Arizona be the right situation? Ron Wolfley, on Sports 620 KTAR’s Doug and Wolf show, doesn’t seem to think so.

“If in fact there is a team that brings Marc Bulger in and wants Marc Bulger to be their starter, I don’t care what team it is in the National Football League, I will give them the benefit of the doubt because they’re not stupid, they’re not a bunch of dummies either,” Wolfley said. “It’s not as though these people are going to sit there and not do their due diligence, not research whether Marc Bulger still wants to be a starter.

“If somebody brings him in I’ll buy it, I just would not want to see the Arizona Cardinals bring him in unless they were going to sign him as a free agent to be a number two, to be a backup.”

Wolfley thinks Kevin Kolb and Kyle Orton are the Cards’ first two choices, respectively, but if they don’t get either someone like Matt Hasselbeck or Bulger could be an option.

But, as we all know, nothing can happen until the NFL’s lockout comes to an end. When it does fans can expect a flurry of activity, and at that point we can finally let the speculation of who the Cardinals will get to play QB turn into speculation on how the new guy will fare after having a short offseason with which to prepare.
