Three members of Grand Canyon University’s men’s basketball team have been named to All-WAC (Western Athletic Conference) postseason teams.
Junior guard DeWayne Russell earned All-WAC Second Team and All-Newcomer Team honors. The 5-foot-11 Peoria native averaged a team-best 14.7 points per game in 22 appearances during the regular season. He also played a team-high 33.5 minutes per game.
Senior guard Jerome Garrison earned a spot on the conference’s All-Defensive team for the second straight year. The 6-foot-3 Phoenix native started all 31 games for the Antelopes (17-14, 8-6), averaging 8.0 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.
Also, freshman guard Joshua Braun landed on the All-Newcomer Team, as he put up 11.9 points — reaching double-figures on 18 occasions — and 4.9 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-4 Anthem native also led the team with 25 blocks on the season, and his 46.6 shooting percentage was the ninth-best mark in the WAC.
GCU finished the season tied with UMKC for the second-best conference record, but the Antelopes’ overall record was much better than the Kansas City school’s 13-18 mark.
Kansas City sophomore guard Martez Harrison, however, took home the WAC Player of the Year award.
