United Blood Services is holding a blood drive Sunday at Paradise Valley Mall and is giving donors a chance to meet MMA champion Tito Ortiz.
The “Fight for Life” drive will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. near Sears. Ortiz is participating in the event on behalf of Mia McPoland, an 11-year-old girl from the Valley who continuously fights for her life because her body cannot produce red blood cells. UBS said McPoland depends on blood donors to provide life-saving transfusions every month at a Mesa hospital.
The first 150 people who donate blood will get to meet Ortiz and receive a personalized autographed photo. They will also have the opportunity to meet McPoland.
UBS said it is especially looking for donors who have O-Negative blood, saying Arizona supplies of the blood type are dangerously low leading up to the Labor Day holiday.
The mall is located at 4568 E. Cactus Road in northeast Phoenix.
