Another day, another accolade for Scooby Wright III.
The Arizona Wildcats’ sophomore linebacker was ranked the fourth-best player in all of college football in ESPN.com’s Postseason #CFBrank released Friday.
Winner of the Nagurski, Bednarik and Lombardi awards, Wright was the nation’s most decorated defensive player. He averaged 11.6 tackles per game and led the nation with 2.1 tackles for a loss per game. He also forced six fumbles and recorded 14 sacks.
Wright, who was also named the 2014 Pat Tillman Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, was beaten in the rankings only by the three 2014 Heisman Trophy finalists: Oregon quarterback and Heisman winner Marcus Mariota, Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper and Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon.
Wright was rated as just a 2-star linebacker out of high school. He has said UA was the only FBS school to offer him a scholarship.
