The Arizona State Sun Devils were the victims of an upset loss at the hands of the Oregon State Beavers last Saturday night in Corvallis.

As a result, the Devils (8-2, 5-2) fell to 13th in the latest College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday night.

Alabama, by virtue of their win over previous no. 1 Mississippi State, moved into the top spot. The Crimson Tide were joined by Oregon, Florida State and Mississippi State in the top four.

Arizona State is one of six Pac-12 teams ranked this week. Joining Oregon in the top ten is UCLA (9th). Following Arizona State is Arizona (15th), Utah (17th) and USC (19th).

For the first time ever, there will be a four-team playoff to determine college football’s national champion. The rankings are determined by a 12-member committee comprised of athletic directors (Jeff Long, Barry Alvarez, Pat Haden, Oliver Luck and Dan Radakovich), former coaches (Tyrone Willingham and Tom Osborne), a former conference commissioner (Mike Tranghese), a former reporter (Steve Weiberg) and other heads of state and administrators (Michael C. Gould, Tom Jernstedt and Condoleezza Rice).
