The Phoenix Coyotes have done a complete 180 over the past week.

Despite an offense that seemed to be chugging along, the Coyotes have failed to register a goal in 194:05 of play. Think about that. The last time they scored, the Catholic Church was still looking for its new pope.

The Coyotes' offense has struggled since the departure of Radim Vrbata, who was placed on injured reserve after breaking a bone in his foot. He led the team in goals last season with 35 and his absence essentially removes the team's top sniper.

With that being said, it's time for the Coyotes to get active in the trade market. The team simply can't score and, should Vrbata be out for a while, the offense will continue to struggle. The team has a plethora of defensemen, some of which could be surrendered in an attempt to bring a scorer the Coyotes desperately need.

I didn't factor any cap space into the trade, since the Coyotes currently have over $19 million in room. I'm sure the NHL has put some limits on spending, but a talented scorer will likely cost a defenseman and a prospect, likely making enough room to absorb a slightly larger contract.

Also, I'm aware of the names I'm listing below. They are all household names (or should be) and will cost the Coyotes. The team can't look to bring in another role player on a roster that's already overloaded with them.

As far as I can tell, the guys below would be available for the right price and would also fit well into the Coyotes system.

    Old Players
Lets stay away from all of these old players that you have listed, why would we trade away our young defense for a player who will retire in two seasons.. Ill take Bozak... Dupuis or Ribiero would be acceptable too, everyone else is too old for the proposed price..

    Shutout Streak is Bad...
... but until the last three games, since Vrbata went out on 2/16, scoring hasn't been a big issue. Counting the shutouts, the Yotes have scored 37 goals to opponents 41 in the 14 games since Feb 18 (game after Vrbata was hurt). Excluding the shutouts, they have averaged almost 3.4 goals per game over that same period - not bad for team that knows it has to win low scoring, tight defensive games. Regardless, goals have dried up lately but none of the guys listed above are worth sending away any of their up and coming players and a blue-liner in a trade.

    Going to need a goalie
Smith is unrestricted FA this summer and he does not look like the goalie of the future (or of the present either) right now.

    Briere...
makes a lot of sense. Not only have the Flyers and 'Yotes done business in the past, but Briere is/was a fan favorite here before. This would not only put pucks in the net but probably put some hind ends in the seats as well.

Develop the young guys at Portland
I'm no expert YET, but I'd like to see Brown, Klinkhammer, Chad Johnson, Miele, Runblad and guys like that developed and brought up because I don't think the Coyotes will have the dough in the immediate term to aquire an Ingila or Perise or (in the baseball vernacular) an already recognized impact player.. I don't think Coach Tippett or Don Maloney has a choice..
