The Phoenix Suns have a shot at moving to a top-three selection in the 2015 NBA Lottery on May 19.
It’s not a great shot, but it exists.
The Suns currently are in position for the 13th overall pick. Out of 1,000 possible combinations distributed from 14 little ping pong balls, Phoenix has…
Six. The Suns were assigned six combination possibilities; a direct result of their 39-43 record.
Minnesota, who finished last in the league with a 16-66 record (hotly contested by the New York Knicks’ 17-65 record), has 250 combinations for a 25 percent shot at snagging the first pick in the 2015 Draft.
Phoenix has the second-fewest amount of chances; just one more than Oklahoma City, who slid right out of playoff contention and into the lottery with a 45-37 record.
The Suns have a 2.18 percent probability of moving to a top-three pick — and a 0.6 percent probability of winning the top pick.
Phoenix jumped from No. 7 to No. 6 in 1986, and No. 5 to No. 2 in 1987, but has never made a climb higher than that.
The odds are not in the Suns’ favor. But a climb is not impossible.
