The Arizona Cardinals apparent search for an experienced tight end began with former Cincinnati Bengal Jermaine Gresham.
Now, it may be taking them in a different, unexpected direction.
Cardinals have spoken with former Redskins TE Chris Cooley and have expressed interest in signing him, per league source.

The 33-year-old Cooley last played in 2012, when injuries limited him to just nine games. However, when healthy, he was one of the better pass-catching tight ends in the league.
A Pro Bowl selection in 2007 and 2008, the 6-foot-3, 252-pound former third-round pick out of Utah State caught 420 passes for 4,638 yards and 33 touchdowns from 2004 to 2010.
However, his best days appeared to be behind him, and after two seasons away from the game you’d have to wonder just how much the veteran has left in the tank.
The Cardinals appear to believe he has something, or at the very least, wouldn’t mind adding an experienced player to a group of tight ends that has just eight catches and 109 yards between it.
