In what shouldn't be a shock to anybody, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network tweeted Thursday morning that the rocky era of Kevin Kolb with the Arizona Cardinals could be in its last hours.

There has been much speculation about Kolb, who is coming off a second injury-shortened season with the Cardinals. Kolb relieved starter John Skelton in the season opener against Seattle, leading Arizona on a go-ahead touchdown drive in a 20-16 win.

Kolb would start the next five games before suffering a rib injury in Week 6 against Buffalo that would sideline him for the remainder of the season.

The six-year pro out of Houston completed 59.6 percent of his passes for 1,169 yards and eight touchdowns during the 2012 season. But Kolb is due a $2 million roster bonus on March 17 if he's still around, so there's speculation that the team will just release him.

Arizona also signed free agent quarterback Drew Stanton to a three-year, $8.2 million contract Wednesday. The deal contains $3 million guaranteed and incentives.

Stanton served as Andrew Luck's backup in Indianapolis last season under interim head coach Bruce Arians, who is of course the new head coach in Arizona.

Stanton hasn't thrown a pass in an NFL game since 2010 when he was with Detroit.

    Think
of the money made by Kolb if the Cardinals cut him before the 17th. Over $20 million for 15 days on the job. More than $10 million a week, more than $10.5 million a day. Not a bad gig if you can get it.

    We
Are in big trouble again this year, Hoyer, Stanton, Lindley, and probably not a first round round qb? There just is no talent again at qb. This is the best out there? Have to see what happens in the draft.

    Yeah well
that was enough of a reason in itself to get Whiz fired! Then throw in the Leinart/DA mess! Rebuilding the right way will make us better!

    Sad to hear
Of course its not over till its over, but I do think Kolb gives us the best chance to win out of all QBs we have or who will be available in this draft, so I'll be sad if we cut him. That said, I understand it, he DOES need to restructure for us to keep him, and I'll understand if he doesn't want to restructure to stay with us, after all our ignorant fans boo'd him when he came in for Skelton in game one, I still find myself putting my head in my hands in disbelief and shame over that one. We haven't shown loyalty to him, so why should he to us?
