The next candidate for the Arizona Cardinals head coaching job reportedly met with team officials on Wednesday night.

ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted Arians and the Cardinals had dinner and then continued talks about the coaching vacancy Thursday.

NFL.com insider Ian Rapoport was the first to report Wednesday that Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians, who was a finalist for the Chicago Bears opening that has since been filled by Marc Trestman, would visit with Arizona on Thursday.

Arians was the Indianapolis Colts' offensive coordinator this past season, though he was the team's head coach for 12 games while Chuck Pagano was battling leukemia. The Colts went 9-3 under Arians.

Before this season, though, Arians was the offensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now 60, he helped the team reach two Super Bowls -- winning one -- and was a favorite of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

Arians will follow Ray Horton, Jay Gruden, Todd Haley and Darrell Bevell as candidates who have interviewed with the team in the Valley.

    I know
that all of this comes a a huge shock to me. I am sure it does to all of you as well. Who would have ever thought that the Cardinals would be the last of the group to sit here without a head coach?

    Arians
If he keeps Horton, I would like Arians as a head man. He strikes me as a good leader, is ready to be a head man, and someone that can coach a team - not just an offense or a defense. For his staff, I wouldnt mind seeing Bowles added to Hortons staff - havent heard Bowles named mentioned anywhere else for DC spots so i would assume he would be up for a position coach for at least a year. Offensively, not sure who Arians would bring. Whiz was the rumor if he went to Chicago, but cant see that happening.

    Well
this is turning into a clusterf... but I really like that we are doing are due diligence. To many times teams settle or make a quick decision without weighing the pros & cons. Arians & Bevell intrigue me because of their work recently with your QB's. Both offenses flourished but differently. We need consistent QB play but we really need a RB or 2 that can stay healthy. Weanie Wells is as good as gone & Ryan Williams has 1 more year to prove he can even remain in the NFL because I guarantee you if he gets hurt for a 3rd yr in a row he won't be signing anywhere.

Not sure what any of this means
FOR HORTON. Just like Whiz, Arians had Big Ben and Andrew Luck in INDY. Gotta credit him for Luck's progressions, but, for guys like Ben, Luck, RGIII, and RW3, there's not much you have to do except call plays. Because your QB either has it or he doesnt. We dont want another good OC. We want someone who can develop our QBs, our O Line, and our running game. Whatever you do Cards, please dont lose Horton. The only thing that makes me feel better is Ben was really upset when Arians was fired, publically questioned Haley, and the job he did with INDY while Pagano as gone was very impressive.

    Stop crying already
Horton will not be HC of the Cards nor any other team this year. He will be what he signed a contract to be - Cards DC for one more year. He's not ready to be HC, plus the Cards are desperate for offensive coaches. Thats what wins in this league! You gotta move the ball. With the talent we have on defense, any coach would look good. Arians won coach of the year honors and worked with alot of successful young QBs in his time. Thats good enough for me!

    Have him do the playcalling
Arians remained calling the plays while he was also HC. There are a few HC's that also do playcalling like McCarthy, Payton, and John Harbaugh. There are probably plenty more. I know that HC's dont like doing that because if they lose, they dont have anyone to share the blame with. But being that we need a offensive coach who will develop this offense and someone to do a good job playcalling, find out if he'll be the playcaller.

    Thanks New Original
because everyone seems to have forgotten the fact that the Cardinals have a problem on offense, scoring points, and keeping our D well rested. Apparently "just hiring an OC for Horton" is the popular answer....but in most coaching interviews the candidate is suppose to present the solution and potential staff they want to bring in. If Horton plan wasn't convincing, then his experiences in the interview processes this year will make him better prepared for interviews in the future. He isn't being handled unfairly, he needs a better plan.

    Horton
Nobody knows how Horton would be as a HC. Sorry but we need an offensive minded HC period and someone that can develope a QB. I believe the Cardinals defense will do great with or without Horton because of the talent. I'm glad the Cardinals organization is taking their time and who cares if they are last in line as long as they do it right.

    Oh Goodness!
Just what we need someone ready for a heart attack. Just look at him no wonder the interview was over dinner. He already said he did not want Horton as DC if hired. Don't get why Horton was not already hired.
