Add one more to the list of coaching candidates the Arizona Cardinals are interested in to fill their open vacancy.

Sunday morning, CBS NFL Insider Jason La Canfora tweeted this:

Gruden, the younger brother of former NFL coach Jon Gruden, has served as Marvin Lewis' offensive coordinator in Cincinnati the last two seasons. In both seasons, the Bengals made the playoffs despite having an inexperienced quarterback (2011 second-round selection Andy Dalton) behind center.

Before coming to Cincinnati, Gruden worked in the Arena Football league for 14 years. On two separate occasions (1998-2001 and 2004-2008), he served as the head coach of the Orlando Predators. In addition, Gruden was the head coach of the Florida Tuskers out of the United Football League in 2010.

Gruden knows a thing or two about the quarterback position, as well, having won four Arena Bowl titles as the starting quarterback of the Tampa Bay Storm.

Sunday night, the Cardinals VP of Media Relations Mark Dalton confirmed the team's interest in Gruden with this tweet:

Arizona has also expressed interest in current defensive coordinator Ray Horton, Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy and Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley.

    Just promote Horton and add Turner as OC. We missed out on Reid because Mikey had no plan to replace Whiz and KC beat us to the punch. Should have kept Whiz and hired a new GM to do the dirty work, which should be Steve Keim (again, not sure why it's taking so long)

    If another HC (Gruden, Haley, McCoy, whoever) is hired, it means Horton is likely gone. Not because the new HC wouldn't want him (that would be kinda dumb, after what he's done w/the defense) but because another team hires Horton as HC. I hope that doesn't happen but Horton knows he's ready to be an HC and if another team offers, he is probably going to take it.

    Dude! You have memory of a gypsy moth. Reid stunk it up in Philly the last two years when he was given all the power in the world. His record over the last six years is on par with Ken Whisenhunt's. In fact, Lovie Smith has a better record over that same time frame than Reid or Whiz. If anything, the Cards dodged a bullet by not getting a chance at Quaker Oats.

    Ok, now we are staring to enter dicey waters where the coaching search is concerned. Cincy secured their playoff spot because their defense really came on the 2nd half of the season. Their offense is good but not such a world-beater that Jay Gruden merits consideration. Are you sure the Cards don't think they are interviewing John Gruden?

    We may just be waiting for the better jobs to be filled first...like Teams with a QB: Chicago, San Diego. I think Philly, Cleveland, Buffalo, and AZ are less desirable.

    Maybe the Cardinals are waiting for everyone to pass on Horton so they don't have to offer him the HC job. If they were so sure on him they would have already promoted him to HC. I like Horton but not so sure if he is ready to be a HC yet.
