Looking back at one of Brandan Wright’s biggest career highlights

Jan 10, 2015, 2:16 AM | Updated: 2:16 am

The newest Phoenix Suns player, Brandan Wright, brings good size and an ability to finish around the rim.

Both attributes were on display during one of the more memorable plays of his career, an alley-oop he finished while a member of the Dallas Mavericks in January 2012.

Against the Minnesota Timberwolves, then-Mavericks guard Jason Terry picked up a loose ball just beyond his own three-point line and, in one motion, lobbed the ball up in the air to a streaking Wright.

The 6-foot-9 Wright threw it down with authority and the home crowd went wild. Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki sat out the game with an injury but was mic’d up for a Fox Sports broadcast, and he had a huge reaction to the alley-oop.

“Shut it down! Let’s go home!” Nowitzki yelled, giving birth to what has become something of a sports catch phrase.

It was only the second quarter when Wright and Terry completed the big play, so we’re not sure where the “going home” part of Nowitzki’s reaction really applies. But it’s a fun phrase to say, nonetheless, and the new Suns forward had a big hand in making it happen.

The play occurred during the first of Wright’s three-plus seasons with the Mavericks, who traded him to Boston last month as part of the Rajon Rondo deal. The Suns acquired the North Carolina product Friday in exchange for a first-round pick.
