The Phoenix Mercury made Brittney Griner, the record-setting, 6-foot-8 center out of Baylor, the first overall pick in the WNBA Draft in April.

Right before the draft, Griner came out as a lesbian during an interview on ESPN. The Houston native said in subsequent interviews that she was asked to hide her sexuality while she was a college athlete at Baylor -- a Baptist university in Waco, Texas.

ESPN The Magazine has done a wide-ranging piece on Griner in which she sits down with writer Kate Fagan and discussed her sexuality, getting picked on as a child and what her goals are in the future.
