Virtually from the moment Arizona State decided to part with Herb Sendek as their head basketball coach, Jeff Capel’s name came up as a likely replacement.
Well, that is not going to happen.
Jeff Capel has removed himself from consideration at Arizona State, an ASU source told @CBSSports. Story coming.

According to Parrish, Capel was tentatively scheduled to visit ASU’s campus this week but decided to just pass on the job entirely.
Capel, currently an assistant coach at Duke, has head coaching experience at Oklahoma as well as VCU.
Where ASU vice president for athletics Ray Anderson goes from here is anyone’s guess. Earlier Tuesday, ESPN’s Jeff Goodman tweeted that Anderson had interviewed former Arizona State assistant Scott Pera on Saturday.
Arizona State is looking for a new coach after parting with Sendek, who guided the program for nine seasons. During his tenure in Tempe, the Sun Devils posted a 159-137 record and made the NCAA Tournament twice.
