Capel was a college basketball head coach from 2002-11. He spent his first four seasons at Virginia Commonwealth and spent the next five seasons at Oklahoma.
He had a 30-win season in 2008-09 and took the Sooners to the Elite 8 before falling to North Carolina. The next two seasons were the worst of his coaching career, as he had a combined 27-36 record. Capel quickly joined Mike Krzyzewski’s staff at Duke after he was fired in 2011.
ASU has been searching for a coach since they fired long-time leader Herb Sendek last Tuesday.
