We all have something (or a lot of somethings) that we know we shouldn't do but do anyway. What did Sheryl Crow call it? 'My Favorite Mistake?'

For me, most days, it's eating peanut butter out of the jar. Whenever I want. That's my 'Favorite Mistake.'

Analyzing mock drafts. Not quite as high up on the 'Favorite Mistake' depth chart as the peanut butter but certainly up there.

In his latest mock, ESPN draft guru Todd McShay has the Cardinals taking QB Geno Smith out of West Virginia. Clearly ESPN's Merril Hoge is not on board that train.

Via Rotoworld.com comes this nugget, said by Hoge on Wednesday's NFL Live on ESPN:

Hoge compared Todd McShay mock-drafting Smith at No. 7 to Mel Kiper hyping up Mike Williams before the 2005 draft. "In recent memory, I have never seen a more inconsistent thrower than Geno Smith," said Hoge. "Receivers that are wide open, (he) absolutely completely misses them. I got frustrated by watching him. ... You cannot be that inconsistent in college and then fix that in the NFL. Decision making, I thought under pressure he was below, below average. ... There ain't no way the Cardinals are gonna draft him. If Bruce Arians has anything to do about it, he will look at (Smith) and say there is no possible way.

Hoge is one of ESPN's most opinionated NFL analysts. Remember how he lit into Cam Newton a couple of years ago?

But "ain't no way" is pretty strong stuff.

I want to agree with him, especially when looking at McShay's mock; he has Central Michigan tackle Eric Fisher available but the Cards passing on him. I find that difficult to believe.

But I won't give Smith the "ain't no way" label just yet.

Two years ago I knew the Cards drafting Blaine Gabbert was an "ain't no way" proposition despite several national types who suggested otherwise. This time around, I'm not so sure just because Arians and his staff are new to me. Saying no to Gabbert was an educated guess. Saying no to Smith is just a guess.

    "Cardinal Decisions"
I agree with everything Hoge. However, the Cardinals have made worse decisions in the past and I would not put it past them to reach for Geno at number 7. That being said I am trying to have faith in the new direction of "Cardinal Decisions" as BA would say.

Have had enough inconsistent QB's post Warner. I can only put my faith in the new coaching staff, I think they will get the best talent available rookie or FA.

    Cards are you reading!!!
Please don't draft a qb #1 there is no one worth it. Get a good OL #1, please go after Hunt from SMU with round 2 or trade up into late 1st. That guy will be a stud, no doubt about it, plus he and Campbell can block field goals. Round # 3 QB Manuel From FSU, 4th round go CB and 5th LB, 6th RB and 7th go OL again. My wish list for players in no particular order, Fisher, Joekel, Mingo, Cooper, Warmack, Milliner, Manuel, Bray, and anyone else who has a desire to leave their heart on the field.

    No No No for sure!
It would be Ken witzenhunt all over again picking unproved talent, this guy was suspect in all areas in college and we dont have time to fix him for 3 years( cant be fixed u r what u r) but we need to get Ryan Mallett at all cost 2nd rounder or 3rd dont matter get him, this guy has been behind Brady for 2 years, he is clearly a first rounder and these guys in this draft are all late 2nd rounders at best (most 3rd rounders)

Apart from taking Smith, I'd take Todd McShay's opinion a lot more than Hoge. And twice on Sunday.

Seriously doesn't think before he talks. If anyone was listening to Todd McShays actual reasoning behind the pick they would know he wasn't hyping Geno up, he actually said he has him graded as a 2nd round pick. To compare McShays mock draft pick to Mel Kiper saying Mike Williams will be in the hall of fame is just ridiculous.

The dude is an analyst, not a reporter. Couldn't give two f's what he says. We're taking one of four players in all likelihood (no order): Joeckel, Fisher, Warmack, Geno Smith. I'd be shocked if Geno was there at 7 because of Jax, Oak, Cle, but I'd also be stunned if we passed on Geno if he does drop to us. Take Geno at #7, take Warford round 2.

    Hoge hates QB's
This clown says this exact same thing about every QB coming out in the draft. He was saying the same crap about Cam Newton and RG3. I don't know what Geno Smith film he has been watching? I worked in WV this fall and watched just about every WVU game. Geno has a beautiful release, strong arm, fits the ball into tight windows, great deep ball and basically never throws picks. He needs to work on footwork and reasing defenses (all coachable flaws).

Geno Smith is a mistake if drafted!
Geno Smith took 2 safeties in a single game...not against the SEC's best, but against Syracuse! He also had a fumble in that game...NO THANKS!

That game vs Syracuse was disgusting. WVU's line looked worse than the Cardinals during that game. Don't judge the guy one one game with snowy conditions and swirling wind.
