Who is in the mood for an analogy or two or three?

The Suns are like the restaurant I used to eat at every Friday night. I go back now and the food isn't very good, the building is all run down, and the health code violations are stacking up. I don't want to eat there anymore.

I admire the passion, and frankly, the anger displayed by my friend and colleague Jude LaCava regarding the Suns.

I can relate.

As an Arizona native, I treat the Suns differently than the other teams in town. The highs are higher. The lows, lower. In some regards I suppose they're like a child born with the burden of enormous expectations; I expect more out of the Suns and when they fail to live up to those expectations, the disappointment cuts deep.

Suns fans are justified in letting their angst flag fly like LaCava, though judging by the sagging attendance the last few years I wonder how many of you are left to be angry. To me it's not anger and certainly sad isn't the right word either. It's disheartening. Pathetically disheartening.

Disheartening to see what has become of the organization with the fourth-best winning percentage in the history of the NBA.

Fourth-best.

I figured a tree with roots that deep would always last. I figured wrong.

The Suns are like a car that has caught fire on the side of the freeway. What would our traffic reporter call it? A Car-B-Que? How can you not slow down to take a look?

To date:

- Alvin Gentry, clearly not part of the problem, yet fired anyway.

- A two-day "search" for his replacement, because, you know, it's standard operating procedure to fire a guy then not have the first clue as to who is replacing him.

-Lindsey Hunter hired despite no coaching experience whatsoever.

-Dan Majerle, local legend, assistant coach and restaurateur, out the door.

- Elston Turner, who owns no restaurants (to the best of my knowledge) but who has been an assistant coach in this league for nearly 16 seasons, perhaps right behind Majerle.

- Gentry, when asked Tuesday if he was ever comfortable with Hunter's presence said after a considerable pause, "Uhhh…I don't think it's important to answer that."

- An "expletive-laced" shouting match between GM Lance Blanks and Jermaine O'Neal.

- An FBI investigation of Hunter, that either is or is not ongoing, depending on whom you ask.

If you were to look at just one of these angles, it wouldn't be a big deal. But you add it all up and…oh yeah, you can see the smoke from miles away and the traffic is all jammed up.

The Suns are Jack, Kate, Locke, Hurley, the smoke monster, the Dharma Initiative and the island all rolled into one. They are Lost.

I don't need a reason to wish the Lakers ill. I enjoy it. But the fact that the Suns get their draft pick if they're in the lottery adds a little more spice to the stew.

It's too bad the Suns front office is sucking all the joy out of Laker-hating. After watching how poorly this has all been mismanaged, it's hard to trust Lon, Lance or Robert with that pick.

Or their pick.

Any pick.

I have always been on board with the plan; the one that says being really bad is good; the only way to fix this.

But being bad satisfies only half the equation. Believing that the decision-makers will make the right call is the other. The NBA Draft and free agency are enough of a crapshoot as it is. The navigation of those waters without a captain you trust has me reaching for the nearest flotation device.

    BOYCOTT
BOYCOTT! Tell your friends and neighbors to BOYCOTT the games. Tell ticket holders to boycott the games. Tell friends and neighbors to call commercial sponsors and tell them you are boycotting the product. I have been a SUNS fans since '68 and there is nothing to compare to this. Dont complain. Boycott he games. An empty arena will do wonders.

Is Sarver Trying to Alienate the Fans?
For a long time I thought Saver was just a typical live-for-today banker that had no clue how to build a long term winner. But, the latest moves have been so horrible that I now wonder if he is not trying to setup a Sacramento type deal where the fans disappear and he can sell the league on moving the team to someplace else...probably SoCal.

    You nailed it, Burns
Yes it looks like we will have two lottery picks this year. However, how can we have ANY confidence Blanks/Babby will make good decisions on these picks. Doesn't it seem inevitable that they will blow these picks? I would love for Sarver to sell the team or get run out of town too, but I highly doubt that happens. For now I would settle for him firing Blanks, Babby, and Hunter at the end of this season. I should be excited for the lottery/draft, but I know Blanks/Babby are going to make terrible decisons.

    DONE!!!
My family is an original season ticket holder. I have been going to games since the beginning. I have been a Suns fan through all the good and bad over the years. The real sad part of this is I do not see anything changing for a long time. I'm DONE! We are not renewing our tickets.

    Sarver Interview
Just listening to the interview on the way back to work. Some guys can sure put a spin on stuff, whether it's true or not. I can't believe any GM would give MB a 3 year deal anywhere near what the Suns did. He's not even a one and done guy. Problems arose from the beginning. Also the whole coaching thing just smells of something dead in the petunas. Maybe Alvin did need to go, i.e. fresh face, scheme, but to put a no experience guy in and run two other loyal experienced guys out of town??? I thought Steve Kerr screwed up when he brought in Shaq. That move looks like genius now.

I agree that Sarver wants to win
He clearly doesnt know how. Culture? Culter is a series of a repeatable behaviors passed on from person to person. Guys like Jared Dudley, Gentry, Marjerle... this franchise has seen guys like Colangelo, Eddie Johnson, Tom Chambers, Steve Nash, Grant Hill... Even Amare is a good guy at heart. The Jason Kidd's get washed out of here. Culture? The culture was fine. Its expectations that need adjustment. Sarver said rebuilding takes time... so why the impatience with the talent? I wish Van Gundy was on the line to correct Sarver's irrational expectations. Who's appraisal do you trust?

    Or maybe..
Maybe this incompetence is part of a plan to get as bad as possible as quickly as possible to get a better pick. Blanks and Babby are certainly the guys for the job.

Jabs Just Keep Comin 2 Suns Fans
After all that talk on air yestrerday regarding the disarray and stumble of the phoenix suns franchise word gets to Sarver and sure enough he calls in and has answers for everything. Look as long as that guy is the owner of this franchise they will never compete. He inhertited some amazing players and rode the wave while it lasted. Lets not be mistaken this is all the Calangelo's fault selling this team to a Businessman who had no idea what he was getting into and Baby Calangelo bolting for the Raptors who still havnt made the playoffs since he got there

    Bad Management.TIME FOR CHANGE!
Been a lifetime SUNS fan.Stood by their side/spent a lot of money on them, even during the difficult years of bad trades, drugs in their house, etc. Never seen franchise in so much disarray. No synergy, mgmt&players with constant revolving door. Selling of draft picks while ignoring the future. Constant changing of coaches, GM's,VP's, etc. I believe they are now at rock bottom. Emergency change is needed, NEED experienced GM&coach, someone who has a strategy/plan&demonstrates successful milestones along the way.TIME FOR THE FANS TO RISE&LET SARVER know HOW BAD IT IS! Maybe loc media can help?
