Arizona running back Ka'Deem Carey was removed from Thursday's basketball game against UCLA in McKale Center after a verbal confrontation with event staff and police, according to a campus police report.

The incident comes on the heels of earlier legal troubles for Carey, regarding a domestic violence incident with his ex-girlfriend in December.

Carey, an All-American running back for the UA in 2012 and the nation's leading rusher, was removed from Thursday's basketball game due to a "lack of cooperation" with UA event staff.

He and his cousin, Hakeem Adams-Johnson, were "double seated and sitting on the backs of the chairs." Frank Duarte, a UA Athletics event staff member, initially asked Adams-Johnson and Carey to leave, according to the report.

Duarte asked them to move on "four occasions." After Carey ignored him, a University of Arizona Police Department officer asked Carey to move and he complied.

Carey told the officer they were sitting in that area because "they couldn't find their seats."

When the officer asked both of them for their tickets, Carey responded, "Get the **** out of my face." He then asked, "Do you know who I am? I'm an All-American."

The officer asked Carey and Adams-Johnson to accompany him outside. They agreed, but Carey approached the officer, asking what the problem was. He said that the pair did not actually have tickets, but were having problems getting them, according to the report.

Carey then "got close" to the officer, who told Carey to "back off." When Carey did not comply, the officer spoke in "a louder voice" and Carey took several steps back, according to the report.

A background check did not return any warrants out for either man.

The officer told both that they would have to leave the game area. Adams-Johnson is not a UA student. Carey was referred to the Dean of Students Office for a code of conduct violation.

Earlier this month, Carey pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct charges. He is set to return to court on Feb. 6 for a pre-trial hearing.

This guy is history. Your move Rod. Do you have the stones to suspend him from the team for spring and take away games from next year.

    This is getting ridiculous
While I understand there are two sides to a story, getting kind of ridiculous. No doubt he'll lose games from the arrest, unless he can prove his ex is a huge liar, but a pattern is emerging if she isn't and it's not good. I hope RichRod doesn't need to remove him from the team, but this just doesn't seem to be on course for any kind of amicable ending right now. RichRod inherited Ka'Deem, but he can't afford a punk on the roster. I don't know the history of how things went at West Virginia, but definitely a couple guys emerged who ended up in a lot of trouble, whether there or in the NFL.

He shouldn't be removed from the team
And this is coming from an ASU fan who absolutely hates UA. I do think he definitely needs to be punished, and I'm sure he will be, but he at least deserves one more chance. If he manages to screw up again and make more bad press for himself, then it's time to start thinking about removing him from the team.

    agree with tutimes
Just making him leave wont fix him as a man. I think they should have some serious talks with him and if he is interested in making some changes in his behavior, then suspend him for a few games and give him a chance to prove himself. Then decide if he deserves to stay.

... but I think he deserves the opportunity to turn things around. RichRod and the athletic dept need to lay it out for him on how it needs to be, offer him whatever support he needs and if he screws up again, suspend him from the team/school. I keep thinking about Vontaze Burfict and how if he had gotten the support from Erickson et al (like he's gotten with the Bengals), how different things might have been for him at ASU. Give Carey another chance.

    Interesting
Good to see these comments from ASU fans and I remember wondering the same thing about Burfict. But here's the problem; RR can't establish that a player can be out of control ego, no matter his numbers. Never heard a bad thing about this kid and now one very serious violent charge and one very db charge. If he's going to stay, the charge sticks and this latest story is true, he needs to sit for 3-4 games. If he accepts that, fine, stick around. If he doesn't, he might have to go. The first issue for RR is the most important to set the tone. Don't think Byrne will stand for it either.

    Nothing will happen to him
Fabbians Ebbele puched a woman in the face before last season and played EVERY DOWN this past year. NOTHING is going to happen to Ka'Deem, trust me.

It was actually Joshua Robbins, the former UA safety, who was charged with assault. Ebbele was charged with criminal trespassing, and was only suspended from Spring practice, which is why he played this last season. Carey will definitely be suspended at least a few games, assuming he doesn't get in to any more trouble.
