A loss to a sub-.500 program will undoubtedly hurt you in the national rankings. Arizona State is feeling the weight of that fact Sunday.

The Sun Devils went to Corvallis, Oregon, as a top-10 team in all three major national polls. The Oregon State Beavers were able to pull off an upset Saturday night of Todd Graham’s group, and the Sun Devils’ standing in the AP Top 25 and Amway Coaches Poll suffered because of the loss.

In the AP poll, ASU fell from seventh to 13th. The school is still two spots ahead of in-state rival Arizona (8-2, 5-2), which beat Washington by one on Saturday.

In the coaches poll, the Sun Devils dropped from No. 8 to No. 14, which is one spot below UA’s newest position.

ASU (8-2, 5-2) will not find out its placement in the poll that really matters, the College Football Playoff rankings, until Tuesday. The school was ranked sixth before the loss to the Beavers, who are now 5-5 overall, 2-5 in conference.

The Pac-12 South crown is still in play, as ASU is just a half-game behind USC and currently tied with UCLA and UA in the divisional standings.

Arizona State’s next game is at home against Washington State (3-7, 2-5) on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 11 a.m. Catch the Cougars-Sun Devils action on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM.
