Porter has gained a reputation for being a top-notch recruiter and helped transform ASU's running game under new head coach Todd Graham.
He interviewed Monday for the position and reportedly has ties to Houston and Southeast Texas as this was his territory when he was a recruiting coordinator at LSU. Those Texas connections likely helped make him an attractive candidate for the position.
