Arizona Coyotes fall in OT despite Domingue’s domination: By the Numbers

The Nashville Predators earned the victory in overtime, but it was the Arizona Coyotes’ 23-year-old rookie goaltender who stole the show.
Making his first-ever home start for the Coyotes, Louis Domingue stopped 38-of-40 shots in Arizona’s 2-1 overtime loss to the Predators in Glendale on Monday.
Domingue allowed the Coyotes (21-38-8; 50 points) to salvage a point after Kyle Chipchura scored his fourth goal of the season on a power play to tie the game 7:27 into the third period.
Nashville’s only regulation goal came via Paul Gaustad 3:26 into the second period. The Preds (42-19-7; 91 points) earned the win on James Neal’s 22nd goal of the season 2:45 into OT.

The Coyotes had played nearly an hour and a half of ice time before breaking their scoreless streak Monday at Gila River Arena. Not since the third period of their game Thursday against the Vancouver Canucks had the team found the net until Chipchura’s goal.

Nashville dominated overtime, entering the period with 30 seconds of a man advantage and unleashing a barrage of shots on goal midway through the extra frame. The Predators managed five total in the period, exhausting the Coyotes’ defense. Arizona failed to put a shot on Nashville goalie Pekka Rinne in extra time.

The Predators have scored on just two of their last 34 power plays, a rate of 5.9 percent. On Monday, they were 0-for-5 on the power play — which included 31 seconds of 5-on-3 play. They managed six shots with the advantage.
