The Arizona Coyotes are going streaking.

After a poor 3-6-1 start to the season that had fans and analysts worried, the Coyotes have now won three games in a row after defeating the Pacific Division-leading Anaheim Ducks 3-2 in a shootout.

In a game that mirrored their season thus far, the Coyotes overcame a slow start, falling behind 2-0 in the first period, to force overtime with a pair of goals of their own in the middle frame.

Shane Doan and Rob Klinkhammer scored for Arizona in regulation, and Sam Gagner and Mikkel Boedker scored in the shootout to pull the Coyotes back to .500.

Goaltender Mike Smith stole the show in Anaheim, stopping 37 of 39 shots in 65 minutes of play. He too has overcome a slow start to put together four solid games in a row.

The Coyotes have found their defensive game as of late, playing much more like the team that made the playoffs three consecutive seasons between 2010-2012 and not the team forced to watch the postseason from home the last two years.

All is well in Coyotes land at the moment. Here’s a look at Friday’s game by the numbers.

3 (part I)

Arizona won three games in a row for the first time this season and the first time since March 15-20, when they won three straight against Calgary, Los Angeles and Florida.

3 (part II)

Shane Doan’s game-tying goal was his third goal in his last three games. He had just one goal through the first 10 games of the season.

5

The Coyotes broke a five-game losing streak against the Ducks, winning for the first time since the final game of the 2012-13 season. Arizona went 0-3-2 against Anaheim last season.

1

Friday’s shootout loss was the first overtime or shootout loss in the young career of Anaheim goaltender Frederik Andersen. He was previously a perfect 4-0 in games needing extra time.

58

Number of seconds between Arizona’s first and second goals of the game in the second period. It was a quick, needed response after falling behind a pair of goals on the road.

6 (part I)

The Coyotes have allowed a power play goal in six straight games after Ryan Getzlaf opened the scoring on the power play a little more than five minutes into the game. Arizona has the fourth worst penalty kill in the league, keeping the puck out of the net only 72.7 percent of the time.

6 (part II)

The Coyotes were outshot (39-25) for the sixth time this season. Friday was only the second time this season the Coyotes won a game while being outshot, the other coming against the Washington Capitals last Sunday.

21

Number of blocked shots by the Coyotes on Friday night, second most of any game this season. Defensemen Zbynek Michalek and Michael Stone led the way with five blocks each.
