The latest twist in the multi-year soap opera that's become the Phoenix Coyotes ownership situation popped up Wednesday afternoon.

A report surfaced that former San Jose Sharks CEO Greg Jamison and his investment group didn't have the capital to close a $308 million arena deal with the city of Glendale by the Thursday 11:59 p.m. deadline.

The sad reality of the latest prospective ownership news has been taken in stride by the players and coaches, who suffered a 2-1 overtime loss to the Edmonton Oilers Wednesday night at Jobing.com Arena. Quite frankly, they're used to it.

"No, it's status quo for us," head coach Dave Tippett said following the loss. "I think this is not a surprise to anybody around here. It is what it is, and we'll deal with it like we've dealt with it for the the last three years...the last three-and-a-half years."

The NHL bought the Coyotes in 2009 after Jerry Moyes entered the team into Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Despite the lack of an owner, the Coyotes have been a playoff team for the last three seasons and advanced to the Western Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history last year.

    Just go
The idea that a great professional team like this can't survive in the 6th largest city in the US, is RIDICULOUS. I found the sport accidentally 2 years ago and realized it was the top team in town. Somebody should have marketed for more fans like me, they didn't hard enough. It's not attendance except as far as some Canadians talk...The D-backs don't sell out, the Suns don't, the Cards come close but nobody cares about the game except the ones played in the parking lots. An embarrassment all the way around for this city. I hope something happens by the end of the day.

has been jumping the gun on this story for the past couple years now, trying to sell the fans that a deal is imminent when it is not as close as they make it seem. I'm not surprised at all that a deal isn't done yet.

    Miles
Was checking Google maps. Queen Creek HS is 56 miles to Jobing. Hamilton HS is 42 miles. Have to drive on I-10 in rush hour to get to a 7PM game. It's like the Kings decided to play in San Bernardino.

    Yotes
Not saying this is true at all.... i just heard. jamison is letting the deal expire on purpose. then he and the indians go in and buy then together and move the yotes to a new stadium built on the reservation next to talking stick. far fetched? maybe. it would cut the drive in half for me.
