The deadline for Greg Jamison to complete his purchase of the Phoenix Coyotes is perilously close to expiring.

And according to a report from ESPN, that Thursday midnight deadline will pass with no agreement in place.

Former San Jose Sharks CEO Greg Jamison, the main suitor for the Phoenix Coyotes for the past year, cannot produce the capital needed to purchase the team from the NHL and as a result a Jan. 31 deadline to maintain a critical lease agreement with the City of Glendale will pass without a deal being completed, multiple sources have told ESPN.com.

The ESPN report goes on to say another ownership group could step forward after the deadline, but it's questionable whether or not the City of Glendale would be willing to start over in the process seeing as how Jamison negotiated the 20-year lease agreement for Jobing.com Arena.

The Coyotes have been owned by the NHL since former owner Jerry Moyes entered into Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2009.

    I hope this isn't true
but I wouldn't doubt it. My second year as a fan...I played football and baseball at the collegiate level and ther first game that I watched I realized I had watched the most exciting sporting event that I had ever seen..So, now a season ticket holder,,,the drive is bad but listening to post game show makes time go by..13,000 tonight Jamison would have been challenged, but obviously he wasn't up to that challenge.

    Sad but Not Totally Unexpected
I've felt all along that Jamison was behaving like someone who was having trouble pulling together the $$'s to make this work. The negotiating and renegotiating with Glendale over arena management fees said it all. I hope they can still stay here but something tells me the NHL is out of patience and will force a move of the franchise. The real fans of this team and stand-up guys like Doan and Tippett deserve better.

    Well that's offically that
NO WAY the coyotes stay in the valley now. As of 02/01/13 the NHL and Gary Battman will begin fielding offers to buy this team from suitors all over the country with intentions of moving them anywhere from Seattle to Qubec City. Putting the arena all they way on the west side is ultimately did this team in. The person who REALLY got screwed here Shane Doan. The only reason he re-signed with the Coyotes is because Jamison gave him his word that the purchase was a for gone conclusion after the lock out was over. What a snake. Doan is deffinently on the AZ sports Mt. Rushmore.

    Way to go Jamison
As Gambo would say "Like seriously" ? It took you all this time to figure out you couldn't buy the team and now the deal with Glendale expires and isn't as good for the next suitor, assuming there is one. Whatever ! It's a shame. Sorry Doaner.

    Inaccurate
Jarrod, your comments are inaccurate. The team does have some marketing, their marketing theme this year is "Join the Pack." They do have some billboards, some TV ads, and some radio ads. Not a lot, but there is some. For the first two years of bankruptcy there was no marketing. And they do offer incentives, I'm pretty sure last night was $1 hot dogs. I also believe that kids are free this year with a paid adult ticket.

    Islanders
And coming from an Islanders fan, this is really the pot calling the kettle black. The Islander fans do not drive however long it takes, they have worse attendance than the Coyotes do. The NJ Devils are not much better. Like it or not, the arena location argumet is a valid one. It takes at least 45 minutes to drive from Scottsdale to glentuky with NO traffic. 6 PM on a weeknight driving west on the 101, there is a lot of traffic.

    lastly
The games are on TV. Fox Sports AZ, or Fox Sports AZ plus, a few on the NHL network, and a few on NBC Sports. I'm sorry you don't have cable or direct TV.
