The news couldn't get much better for hockey fans around the country Sunday, as the league and players association tentatively agreed on a new 10-year deal that would essentially end the 113-day lockout.

The NHL is current proposing a 48 or 50-game season in 2013, but fans in the Valley might have more reason to rejoice than most.

Reporter John Shannon of Sportsnet tweeted this out shortly after an agreement was announced between the NHL and NHLPA:

The news comes a little over a month after Glendale officials approved a new 20-year lease agreement with the Coyotes to stay in Jobing.com Arena.

Jamison formerly served as the CEO and president of the San Jose Sharks before forming a group to buy the Coyotes.

Phoenix has been run by the NHL since filing for bankruptcy in the fall of 2009.

    Thanks to the city of Glendale for keeeping this organization in Arizona. It is all the professional organizations from sports to the arts that make this city the exciting city that it is..lets support them all and I can't wait for the first game. Lets go Coyotes, Lets go D-backs, Lets go Suns, Lets go symphony orchestra..Aint Phoenix GREAT!

    I would feel more confident if the NHL announced the sale to Jamison. Not Jamison announcing that he is buying the team. Too many false starts to my liking in this fiasco.

    "On the verge of announcing purchase...." isn't final enough for me. How many times have we heard "..within 30 days" or "details should be worked out in another couple of weeks"?? Tell me when the NHL says the deal is done and the Jamison people are running the team.

    Why would he finalize the deal during a lockout, signing himself into potentially being a defendant in an anti-trust lawsuit? Why would he sign himself into the middle of a CBA war? This deal was done months ago and he and his investment group patiently waited for this day to proceed with closing it. ALSO, the longer his group owned the team without a season (capital) the more it would have hurt the pockets when we all know money it tight at the moment.

    Finally... Wonder what kind of deal the NHL will offer on the Center Ice package... I'm going to have to watch a lot of hockey in a short time.
