Coyotes add veteran Antoine Vermette in trade

The Phoenix Coyotes made a trade Wednesday, acquiring center Antoine Vermette from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for a pair of draft picks and minor league goalie Curtis McElhinney.

Vermette, 29, comes to the Coyotes having recorded 8-19-27 in 60 games with the Blue Jackets this season.

"We are extremely pleased to acquire Antoine," Coyotes GM Don Maloney said. "He is a smart, skilled, two-way center who will be a great addition to our lineup."

The 6-foot-1, 198 pound Vermette has played in 600 career NHL games, as his career has taken him from Ottawa to Columbus, and now Phoenix. For his career Vermette has tallied 141 goals and 178 assists to go along with 317 PIMs.

Vermette is under contract for the next three seasons with a $3.75 million cap hit.
