The Arizona Diamondbacks sure do love playing the American League this season, especially on the road.
Jake Lamb knocked in Paul Goldschmidt with a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning to give the D-backs a 4-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Monday night.
The win improved the team to 6-3 against American League opponents this season, and 4-1 on the road.
Arizona struck early for the first three runs of the game behind solo home runs from Paul Goldschmidt and Welington Castillo.
For Castillo, he homered in his first at-bat against his former team in the second inning. The D-backs tacked on another run later in the inning on an Ender Inciarte fielder’s choice.
Extra innings didn’t seem like they would be needed for most of the night.
Robbie Ray pitched seven strong innings, giving up two runs while striking out eight batters.
Without closer Brad Ziegler, who wasn’t available to pitch after closing out games on Saturday and Sunday, the D-backs couldn’t close the deal in the ninth.
Daniel Hudson started the inning, but was replaced by Oliver Perez to face a left-handed hitter with a runner on second base and two outs.
Perez walked Logan Morrison before Mike Zunino tied the game for the Mariners with a single.
The D-backs loaded the bases with one out on a pair of walks and a hit by pitch in the tenth before Lamb’s game-winning sacrifice fly off former D-back Vidal Nuno.
The team has now won four of their last five games.
