The D-backs finally got over the hump, reaching .500 for the first time since April 24. The attention now turns from that number to what it actually means.
The phrase “media-driven” has come up on numerous occasions over the course of the time spent below .500. A poll on ArizonaSports.com revealed the thoughts of fans regarding the importance of reaching the number.
The poll asked “after finally reaching .500 for the first time in 13 tries since April 24, do you expect the win to help propel the D-backs into playoff contention?”
56% of the 910 votes were not making much of it. 37% answered “Meh, it’s one game. Can’t make much of it,” while 17% answered “No. This team has proven to be mediocre.”
44% answered with “Yes! A major mental hurdle has been cleared.”
The impact of reaching the number can be debated, but it’s safe to say the Diamondbacks are looking forward to moving on.
The Diamondbacks start a three-game series in New York against the Mets on Friday.
