Major League Baseball announced on Monday that Paul Goldschmidt is the Arizona Diamondbacks’ nominee for the 2014 Hank Aaron Award.
Goldschmidt won the National League Hank Aaron award — which recognizes outstanding offensive performances in each league — in 2013.
The Diamondbacks’ first baseman batted .300 with 19 home runs, 69 RBI and 39 doubles in 109 games during the 2014 season. He fractured his hand on Aug. 1, missing the last 53 games of the season.
Before getting hurt, Goldschmidt led the National League in doubles and extra-base hits, and ranked in the top 3 for runs scored (2nd), total bases (2nd), on-base percentage (3rd), slugging percentage (3rd), walks (3rd), and RBI (3rd).
Other nominees this year include Justin Upton (Atlanta Braves) and Andrew McCutchen (Pittsburgh Pirates) in the National League, and Mike Trout (Los Angeles Angels) and David Ortiz (Boston Red Sox) in the American League.
Fans can vote for the winners of the award on the MLB’s website, as well as each team’s website. Voting ends on Oct. 5, with the winners announced at the 2014 World Series.
Also voting for the award is a panel of Hall of Fame players led by Hank Aaron himself. Featured on the panel are Roberto Alomar, Johnny Bench, Paul Molitor, Eddie Murray, Frank Thomas and Robin Yount.
