According to Arizona Sports 620's John Gambadoro, the Arizona Diamondbacks have bolstered their starting rotation through free agency.

McCarthy went 8-6 with a 3.24 ERA in 18 starts for the Oakland Athletics in 2012. The 6-foot-7 right-hander had his season cut short when he was struck in the head by a line drive off the bat of Los Angeles Angels infielder Erick Aybar. Oakland had termed the injury "life-threatening" immediately following, but the veteran was medically cleared to return to baseball last month.

In his seven-year career, McCarthy has posted a 37-39 record in 153 games (99 starts) with a 4.02 ERA. He was Oakland's opening day starter in 2012.

According to Nick Piecoro of AZCentral, the deal is worth $15.5 million over two years.

    ...enough with former A's players. Between Ziegler, Cahill, Pennington, and now McCarthy, we've turned into Oakland South. There's a reason that, up until this year, the A's haven't done anything. Unfortunately for the Dbacks, a large part of the A's success last year came from Parker. It sure would be nice to get him back.

    Given a career pitching record below .500, plus with his history of arm problems to include last years unfortunate accident, sure seems a lot of cash D-Backs are gambling on ; would think a heavy laden incentive contract would have been the way to go to include more years as one of the incentives; hope he works out; do not give any of our young arms away --- history shows, some will be busts & others getting injured

    Agreed Jdanielson, we need more former Blue Jays' players. But seriously, is this how we should be spending money when we clearly have other holes? Unless this move is specifically to make Trevor Bauer expendable and then shop him for a shortstop, I don't like it at all.
