The Pulse: Mixed opinions on the Phoenix Suns’ trade deadline moves

As you’re probably well aware, the Phoenix Suns made a lot of noise right before the NBA’s trade deadline hit.

Several players and draft picks changed hands, but in short, the Suns parted ways with Goran Dragic, Isaiah Thomas, Miles Plumlee, Zoran Dragic and Tyler Ennis, and the team took in Brandon Knight and Marcus Thornton.

After the flurry of moves last week, we asked our readers for their opinions on how the Suns made out once the dust had settled. It’s our Sanderson Ford Poll Question of the Day and it can be found in the right-hand column of our home page.

A staggering 1,571 votes were cast, and the results are quite mixed, although they lean a little toward the positive spectrum.

In first, by a hair, was, “I think I like them,” which took 29 percent of the vote (449 total). Just 20 fewer readers clicked on, “Some good, some bad,” which came in second with 27 percent of the vote.

In third was the most positive option: “Love them, great stuff!” This choice received 289 votes (18 percent).

The two choices on the negative side of things each received 13 percent of the vote. “I’m a little uneasy about them” garnered 205 votes, while, “Hate them, team is much worse now” was clicked on 199 times.

All the deals were made last Thursday, and the Suns have since lost back-to-back games by a total of seven points. They lost by two in Minnesota on Friday with a short-handed roster, and Knight made his Suns debut Saturday in Chicago, a game in which Phoenix fell by five.

The loss of Dragic, 28, could be considered a big blow, as he led the Suns in scoring and assists in 2012-13 and 2013-14 and was generally considered to be the team’s best player. However, the 23-year-old Knight comes in with better averages in points, assists, rebounds and steals this season from a team, Milwaukee, that had a better record than Phoenix at the time of the trade.
