Phoenix Suns roll past Mavericks, extend winning streak to four: By the Numbers

Dec 24, 2014, 5:02 AM | Updated: 5:02 am

The Phoenix Suns have certainly been streaky this season, but right now, they are on the good kind.

Phoenix rode strong second and third quarters to defeat the Dallas Mavericks 124-115 in their last game before Christmas. The Suns are riding high entering the break, winners of four games in a row.

Home struggles plagued the Suns throughout the early part of the season. They came into the game as the only team to be above .500 overall and below .500 at home. Tuesday’s win improves Phoenix’s record inside U.S. Airways Center to 7-7 (16-14 overall).

Great guard play was the story of the night, as Gerald Green, Eric Bledsoe and Goran Dragic combined for 63 points. Alex Len (17), Isaiah Thomas (12) and P.J. Tucker (15) also scored in double-digits. Bledsoe finished with 11 assists and 10 rebounds for his second triple-double of the season.

On the final night of Hanukkah and on Christmas Eve’s Eve, here’s a look at Tuesday’s victory by the numbers.

1

It took 14 home games but the Suns had their first sellout of the season on Tuesday night. The fans were not disappointed, as the high-scoring game was exciting from start to finish.

4 (Part I)

In a comedic series of events in the first half, the Suns had a possession in which they had the ball for 31 seconds and missed four shots.

4 (Part II)

The Suns kept a short bench against Dallas, using only four bench players. Marcus Morris, Miles Plumlee, Gerald Green and Isaiah Thomas combined to score 42 points.

17

Alex Len tied his second-best offensive performance of the season, scoring 17 points. He also grabbed seven boards before fouling out of the game in the fourth quarter.

23-6

After missing the first 11 shots of the second quarter, the Suns finished the first half strong. Phoenix went on a 23-6 run to take an eight-point lead into halftime.

75.8

Neither team could find its groove from the free throw line, as the two teams combined to go 47-of-62 from the charity stripe (75.8 percent). Phoenix shot 72 percent.

124

The Suns set a new season-high for points by dropping 124 on Dallas. Their previous high was 122 on Nov. 21 against the lowly Philadelphia 76ers.
