The Phoenix Suns will be without starting center Marcin Gortat for a while after he suffered a Lisfranc sprain in his right foot during Wednesday's loss to the Toronto Raptors.

The injury is expected to keep him out for at least 3-4 weeks.

"For me it looks like it's more like a season than three weeks because after three weeks there's going to be another week of treatment and before I get back conditioning-wise and get in shape and everything the season's going to be over," Gortat said after practice Thursday.

Gortat left the Suns' 98-71 loss to Toronto Wednesday late in the first quarter after he was stepped on by Raptors forward Amir Johnson.

"It hurts, it hurts," an emotional Gortat said. "All the work I put in...frustrating. Six years without injury."

Gortat had started each of the Suns' 61 games this season, and while he is thankful the injury isn't worse, he's not pleased with the idea of his season essentially being over.

"I'm definitely not going to work all this to get back just to come back for one or two games," he said. "I'd rather just rest the rest of the year."

Should this be the end of Gortat's season, the 29-year-old will have finished with averages of 11.1 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game.

Gortat added he will not play for the Polish national basketball team like he did last offseason, pointing to the extra work as a reason for the injury.

"Basically that's what screwed me over, that's what really screwed me over," he said, saying he's sure the added wear and tear led to this. "That was just stupid."

    Sucks for Gortat
But maybe this injury is a blessing in disguise for the Suns. Now we can REALLY suck (like we did last night without Marcin), and hopefully get the best selection possible in this year's weak draft.

    Sorry Big Fella
I'm sure he feels horrible about this and that maybe even he may have caused it with his Polish league play last year. The Polish Hammer will be missed but with O'Neal also missing the next couple of games, maybe (as tutimes says) it's a blessing in disguise for next year's draft. It may be heartless and crass to say it but I'm sure a lot of other people are thinking the same thing.

i hope you are right - but the suns have been playing extremely well with oneal in the lineup. if he returns and plays like he was we could go on another winning streak!

Mesaman you do dream. Another win streak, what 2 or 3 games in a row, really. I also wish they were playing better but this years record is 1 out of 3 they might win. Looks like the Lakers will make the playoffs, which efeects the position of the first round pick. This year is toast. Learning about what we have to either keep or get rid of ( Beasley) is what the rest of this year is about. Go W.J. & D.G.

I dream that we can somehow get McLemore - and will need as bad a record as we can get. 2-3 game winning streak isnt anything to laugh at - it could be the difference between us getting a top 3 pick and us getting pick 6 or 7. Dont know if you have noticed, but other than the Bobcats most of the bottom teams are pretty close in record
