Suns general manager sent a letter to season-ticket holders following Sunday's coaching announcement (Photo provided by @AZJoshM).
Following Sunday's announcement that the organization planned to name Lindsey Hunter as its interim head coach, Phoenix Suns general manager Lance Blanks sent season-ticket holders a lengthy letter.

In the message, Blanks introduces Hunter as the team's leader moving forward and attempts to showcase his extensive NBA experience, both as a player and as a coach. The general manager also went out of his way to thank former coach Alvin Gentry, who mutually agreed to part ways with the team Friday.

While Phoenix sits in dead last in the Western Conference and enters the halfway point of the 2012-13 season at 13-28, the Suns general manager tried to remain as upbeat as possible in the message.

He made sure to include the following in his four-paragraph note to Suns fans:

I remain excited about this and know that our future is bright. As a result of careful planning, we've created a lot of options and flexibility to help us begin moving towards elite status. For example, we have as many as 10 draft picks over the next three seasons, including at least two first-round and one second-round picks this year. In addition, we currently have $6.5 million in cap space to sign new players. Our work is far from over, but with our commitment to excellence and perseverance the Suns are sure to rise again.

With the organization's eye already towards the offseason, Blanks added that the team will hold town meetings in the coming weeks to discuss the draft and free agency.

I wish that was his resignation letter.
He is the worst evaluator of talent. First of all I am hoping Sarver wouldn't sell all our draft picks this year. And then I am hoping Blanks is not making the selections.

This is the most "public" Blanks has been for a while. I dont even know what he looks like They should have given the interim opportunity to Majerle or Turner over Hunter. They did their time. This reminds me of when the DBacks replaced Bob Melvin with A.J. Hinch.

If we could only turn back time
..to when the Colangelo's owned the team. We might have some NBA championship trophies and we sure wouldn't be in the mess we are now.

    Mutual???
I am so tired of good coaches getting fired when it is the people doing the firing are the ones that need to be fired. I really doubt that is was a mutual agreement to part ways.

I don't think you can look at this year to judge his talent evaluation skills. I think this year the plan was just to put butts in the seats while having a bad enough season to make all those drafts picks mean something. I think the next two years are where you evaluate his skills.

Colangelo became the GM in the team's first year, 1968. He finally sold the team in 2004. In 36 years, we had no titles. So I don't know why you think we'd have any more trophies than we do now.

Glad thunder dan isn't the coach
Lindsey Hunter is the right man for the job. He's always been a winner. Dan Majerle being the coach would of been a joke. The suns would of been the laughing stock of the league for sure. C'mon, the guy use to drink beer while calling the games a couple of years back. Yeah he's a fan favorite but in my eyes he isn't ready to be a head coach.

    Joke
Wake me up when this nightmare is over. As long as Blanks is in charge of picking talent, and making coaching decisions, the future is bleak not 'bright'. I shudder to think of the picks he makes this summer.

    Careful planning?
This was considered careful planning by the FO? Even Babby said they didnt plan for Gentry to be fired, so how is that careful planning? This roster is a horrible mix match of players. The skill levels and chemistry is so off for this team its ridiculous. Yet this is considered careful planning? Seems more like, hey lets throw all these players together and cross our fingers we can be sort of relevant while we collect draft picks. I get it build through the draft, but you really dont have any current pieces to build off of and your past drafts has shown you dont even know who do the draft.

The three stooges and the grinch have managed to reduce this once proud organization into a cesspool of incompetence. We miss you Jerry.
