Ryan Lindley to start for Arizona Cardinals against San Francisco

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said Friday that third-string quarterback Ryan Lindley will start Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. It will be his second consecutive start.

Arians said earlier in the week that the Cardinals would start their fourth quarterback of the year in Logan Thomas, Arizona’s 2014 fourth-round draft pick, after Lindley completed just 18-of-44 passes for 216 yards and an interception in Sunday’s 35-6 loss to the Seahawks.

According to Arians, the decision came after the “evaluation process during the week” and Lindley would “give us a better chance to win the game.”

“Logan’s going to be a hell of a player one of these days, but right now he’s not ready,” he added.

Arians said Thomas had not been putting the ball in the spots it needed to be.

“He was throwing it well,” he said, “But not to the right guys. He just hasn’t had enough reps to go against this defense, which is one of the best five defenses in the National Football League.

“It was probably a poor decision on my part to early-announce it.”

The news came after an earlier report surfaced that said Drew Stanton had to have an arthroscopic procedure to combat an infection “caused by an outside medical treatment.”

Arians said he has “no idea” about the infection and that Stanton is “on schedule for next week.”
