The Pulse: Antonio Cromartie the Arizona Cardinals’ MVP in win over Eagles

Every day, ArizonaSports.com asks its readers a question. It’s the Sanderson Ford Poll Question of the Day, and it can be found midway down the right side of our home page.

On Monday, Oct. 27, we asked readers who they thought was the Arizona Cardinals’ most valuable player in the team’s 24-20 home victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

The most popular pick, by a wide margin, was cornerback Antonio Cromartie. Picking off two passes and adding five solo tackles will do that for you. The first-year Cardinal garnered 513 out of 1,223 overall votes (42 percent) in our poll.

The next two most popular picks were receivers Larry Fitzgerald and John Brown. The 252 votes (21 percent) cast for Fitzgerald slightly beat the 239 nods (20 percent) for Brown. Both wideouts caught long touchdown passes in the win, with Fitzgerald’s 80-yarder being a career best. The 11-year veteran finished with seven catches for 160 yards, while the rookie hauled in five passes for a not-too-shabby 119 yards. Those yards from scrimmage were the most this season for both receivers.

In a not-too-distant last place was quarterback Carson Palmer, who earned 219 votes (18 percent). Palmer was under 50 percent (20-of-42) on his passes, but he went over 300 yards (329) and had two touchdowns and no interceptions. His quarterback rating in the game was 90.3.

Arizona’s win Sunday moved the club to 6-1, tied with one other teams for the best record in the NFL. The Cardinals next head to Arlington, Texas, to take on the Dallas Cowboys — who were 6-1 before losing Monday night to Washington — next Sunday at 10 a.m. MST. Catch the showdown on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM.
