GLENDALE, Ariz. — Quarterback Carson Palmer, now in his second year with the Arizona Cardinals, meets the media several times during the training camp.
Here, in this space, we’ll highlight many of the key topics and personal conversations he has with reporters following the morning walk-through:
Where is Michael Floyd’s ceiling for how good he can be?
“I don’t know. I can’t say there is a ceiling. He can do just about everything because he is quick enough. He’s a big, physical guy. But he plays quick; he plays small. I’m not going to put a ceiling on him.”
What is he looking for in a fourth or fifth wide receiver?
“Probably in this system, the best things that you can be (are) you can be multiple, you can play ‘F,’ ‘X’ and ‘Z’ (and) you understand the ‘hots.’ It may not be you have the best hands or (you’re) the quickest or fastest or biggest or strongest. It may be simply that you can do it all in case Larry (Fitzgerald) goes down, Mike (Floyd), Teddy (Ginn), John (Brown), whoever it is.”
What can a guy like tight end John Carlson do for this offense?
“It’s great. He’s a really, really good player. I thought he was going to be good, and I’ve been very, very pleasantly surprised. Just a very good route runner — understands the system already. He can block, he can run, he can catch. Just all around, he can do it all. It’s going to be very beneficial for all of us.”
On how conversations have changed between him and head coach Bruce Arians
“(Fewer) questions. There were a lot of questions last year after plays, before plays. Now, the play is called and we just roll. And if there’s a correction that needs to be made, it gets made in the meeting. But there’s way (fewer) questions on the field.”
Where is the confidence of the team compared to a year ago?
“We’ve upgraded where we needed to very, very well. But I also think we have a certain swag at this time of year that we didn’t have last year, just because we’ve seen ourselves do it on film at the end of the year. We’re just going to continue to develop and work.”
