It all seems to be lining up.

The Arizona Cardinals, who hired Bruce Arians as head coach seemingly at the expense of defensive coordinator Ray Horton, will need to replace the architect of their defense.

The name linked to Arizona has been that of Todd Bowles, who finished last season as the defensive coordinator in Philadelphia.

He's now available to the Cardinals, according to USA Today NFL writer Mike Garafolo.

Bowles, 49, has spent time with the Dolphins, Cowboys, Browns and Jets as an assistant, but got his first taste of being a coordinator last season when he replaced Juan Castillo during the 2012 season.

The Eagles defense did not improve under Bowles, however, ultimately finishing 15th in total defense while giving up nearly 28 points per game.

Don't read too much of the Philly situation
Even Ray looked like doo doo early on. You really can't judge a defensive coordinator when he's being asked to take over near midseason. However, - Todd - you have some big shoes to fill, but it doesn't hurt when you have the defensive talent the Cardinals currently have (although you might want to try to upgrade some secondary spots, and get a big linebacker that can tackle as well as he can pass rush).

    Indeed
@theorifinalcardsfan Indeed he does have big shoes to fill. I do disagree about the big linebacker part though. DW can tackle and pass rush. He's becoming one of the best.

Way to go Bidwill, let's take the strength of a team and tear it down. You sir are the biggest freaking IDIOT on the planet and this team will be a shambles for years on your watch. Just because Arians will be a good coach you don't give him everything he wants just because you are desperate. I'm so done with this team. Good Ridance BIDWILL.

    stats
when you look at the stats, the cards were ranked 12th in defense yards allowed, and the eagles were 15th. not too big of difference. you could point to the poor qb play as being a negative allowing the opposition to be on the field more. however, you could say the same exact thing for the eagles - especially early on. they turned the ball over a ton.

    Sure Bet..!
Although Horton is a better DC..players make coaches, what schemes does Todd Bowles have?, does he play 3-4 or 4-3. Cardinals play a 3-4..! Can he improve this defense (12th in total defense) does he keep Hortons DB coach who did a tremendous job with the secondary (5th. in the NFL). alot questions...little answers.

Finally someone else sees it! Our D was ok last year, not great. He can't be blamed for Philly's D last year, he inherited it halfway through the year. He's young and I'd argue he's got much better players defensively than he did in Philly. I'd like to see Juan Castillo coach our offensive line. Get a player like Eric Fisher in the 1st round, then I'd actually like to see the Cards look to draft QB Ryan Nassib out of Syracuse. I think he's the best QB in the draft. Check him out Cards fans, he'd be perfect working with Arians.

    Don't belittle our Defense...
it was put in horrible situations last season thanks to the lack of production and turnovers by the offense. and they STILL ranked 12th. its a testament to how good this defense actually was.

    Card's D Wasn't Great
... because they spent far too much time on the field, how can that be trivilaized? How many turnovers did the D create that the offense couldn't do diddly with? If the offense wasn't pathetic, Horton's guys could have been rated far higher. Looking forward, I do agree with PatrickPetersonsTalent about Ryan Nassib - I watched a couple of Syracuse' games this past year and that kid is good. Not worth a 1st round pick but worth consideration in the 2nd or 3rd for sure.

Some of you guys on all these stories sound like a bunch of 12 year old emotional know it alls! Give it a chance! You only know and hear what they want you to know and hear. Heck, Horton was let go and immediately hired! give it a break and open your mind! This is a good thing! It was pretty obvious the team lost respect for Whisenhunt. I like Ray Horton as well-but lets move on to a very promissing future! He is not the only DC out there that can coach a team! This team has A LOT of talent and just needs the right person to point them in the right direction! Let go and move on! GO CARDS!
