After two seasons, defensive coordinator Ray Horton will reportedly not be returning to the organization in 2013.
While the Arizona Cardinals defense made great strides in 2012 -- ranked in the top 5 this season in pass defense and team takeaways -- defensive coordinator Ray Horton won't live to see another day in the Valley, according to Mike Silver of Yahoo! Sports.

Although Horton previously worked for six seasons (2004-2010) in Pittsburgh with Bruce Arians, the new Cardinals head coach will reportedly not be retaining him on his staff.

On Wednesday, ArizonaSports.com had heard that would be the case, but has not yet confirmed Silver's report.

Bowles, who will reportedly be replacing Horton, played eight seasons (1986-1993) in the NFL as a safety for the Washington Redskins and San Francisco 49ers.

He has served as an NFL assistant with six different franchises since 1995, and most recently was the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2012.

Bowles worked with Arians when the two were together with the Cleveland Browns from 2001-2003.

    This is horrible
I feel like the Bidwills stabbed us in the back. We all know Ray can be a HC somewhere else. And if they didnt plan on making him HC they should have given him a raise to stay in his DC position because he deserves it. I wonder if they told him that that was what they would do if they went with someone else (just like they did Boldin). If this true its unfair to Horton and to the fans. Figures... Hire Arians and get rid of Horton for Bowles who is cheap and worth what they're about to pay his cheap butt.

    yawl venting but not thinking
What good would it have been if Horton stayed for just one more year, we would lose him the following year anyway , I dont agree with a guy who just got fired for sucking in Phili but a new guy has to come in, HORTON WOULD NOT BE HERE AFTER NEXT YEAR ANYWAY,

    stupid
I've been a cards fan and ticket holder back to the sun devil stadium days, and its not the hiring of Arians itself that makes me so irate...it is the fact that Bidwill knew bringing Arians on would mean that Horton was out. Somebody please tell me how eliminating the mastermind behind the ONE and ONLY aspect of the game the cards succeeded at this season (their D), was a move that helps this franchise? Literally, this is ludicrous in every sense of the word.

Arians is a good hirer as far as a football guy, smart guy real coach style guy, he makes QB's better. CMon people after you vent you will see Horton would be a mystery as HC having never done it, with Arians we just seen him coach a low expectation team to the playoffs.

What he said. Unfingbelievable! This is the same old Cardinals. No doubt. I can't do it anymore. I refuse to give up my Sunday afternoons watching them. I'll be golfing instead. Nice job guys. Piss off and Piss on the only competent coach you had.

    Say it isn't so
I'm hanging on the sliver of hope that this remains unconfirmed and doesn't come true. Stupidest move. I thought Keim made good decisions. On top of all that doesn't Horton still have a contract for one more year? Horton has my support wherever he goes.

Contrary to popular belief on this site, Michael Bidwill is a smart guy(BTW if you are blame the family as the reason this team loses a game or ever does something you don't agree with, eff- ing learn how to spell it correctly). And he is a socially and organizationally savvy guy to boot. In other words, he's not his father. Which is what makes this move so incredibly stunning. Why in the world would you screw up the one part of the team going in the right direction? What a shame.

    That said...
... if this move is really what pushes any of you "fans" to be "done" with THIS franchise - the CARDINALS, who are one SB appearance and 2 playoff seasons away from being the worst franchise in major sport history, you obviously weren't around when personnel decisions just as bad, or worse than this were an every month occurrence. In other words, you were never really a fan, you won't be missed and don't let the door hit your ∆ss on the way out.

...it's not completely unbelievable...It's desperation by Bidwill because he couldn't get the job done with Reid. Baby Bidwill apparently is the correct title.
